First edition, published 1996 by HPBooks, an imprint of The Berkley Publishing Group, New York. Marianna Olszewska Heberle, a native of Poland, learned traditional family cooking at her grandmother's side. German Cooking is gathering recipes that blend traditional German classics like Wiener Schnitzel and Black Forest Cherry Cake with lighter, contemporary dishes adapted for the American kitchen, each accompanied by notes on the historical and cultural background of the dish. With special thanks in the acknowledgments to Tom and Lois Holtz Heberle, whose family recipes shaped much of the book.
