This lovely softcover edition is in fine condition, the pages crisp and entirely unmarked, with no creasing to the spine — a copy that has clearly been cared for since the poet herself signed it over thirty years ago. Inscribed and signed by the author in red ink on the title page: "for Katherine — Maxine Kumin, 25 Oct 94. First published in Penguin Books in 1989 (first published in the United States by Viking Penguin, 1989); this is the Penguin Poets paperback edition. Copyright Maxine Kumin, 1989. Maxine Kumin was an American poet and author of eighteen poetry collections, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1973 for Up Country: Poems of New England, and served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress (the position now known as U.S. Poet Laureate) from 1981 to 1982. Critics compared Kumin to Robert Frost and Henry David Thoreau for her precise, unsentimental evocations of rural New England and the rhythms of daily life. Nurture gathers poems on animals, compassion, ecology, the seasons, travel, art, and memory. This copy is inscribed by the author in red ink on the title page, dated 25 October 1994. ISBN 0-14-058619-9. Ships from Canada.
