This book is a hardcover first edition in very good condition. The deep blue cloth boards are clean and unmarked, with gilt lettering to the spine. The pages are clean, of fine quality, and appear unread. The dust jacket is clean and free of stains, with light rubbing along the edges. First edition of this Macmillan of Canada anthology, published in Toronto in 1974. The jacket painting by Robert J. Anderson wraps around the spine and covers, showing snow capped peaks above forested slopes and a winding river. The pale river across the spine is part of the artwork, not a tear. Editors Andreas Schroeder, a Vancouver literary critic, and Rudy Wiebe, author of Peace Shall Destroy Many and The Temptations of Big Bear, present stories from two regions. The British Columbia selections move between conventional realism and experimental surrealism, while the Arctic selections treat the north as a vital part of the Canadian experience. Contributors include Malcolm Lowry, Ethel Wilson, Jane Rule, Jack Hodgins, Audrey Thomas, James Houston and Jack London. 284 pages with biographical notes.
