The Honourable Schoolboy is a 1977 novel by John le Carré, the second book in his famous Karla Trilogy, which also includes Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1974) and Smiley's People (1979). It is a classic Cold War espionage novel. The novel picks up where Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy left off, with George Smiley assuming control of The Circus, the British intelligence service. Determined to rebuild the Circus and strike back at the Soviets, Smiley targets a financial trail that appears to lead to Karla, his enigmatic Soviet counterpart. To pursue this lead, Smiley enlists Jerry Westerby, a journalist-turned-spy known as The Honourable Schoolboy.
