The book recounts Amanda Lindhout's harrowing experience of being kidnapped and held captive in Somalia for 460 days. Amanda Lindhout, born in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, developed a passion for travel and journalism, leading her to explore various conflict zones worldwide. In August 2008, while in Somalia, she and Australian photojournalist Nigel Brennan were abducted by armed militants. The memoir details the challenges they faced during their captivity, including physical and psychological abuse, and Lindhout's strategies for survival. "A House in the Sky" became a New York Times bestseller and won the 2014 CBC Bookie Award for Best Canadian Nonfiction.
