The dust cover is unmarked, red cloth boards with black lettering on the spine. Shōgun is based on real historical events, drawing inspiration from the life of William Adams, the first Englishman to reach Japan. In Volume 2, the story continues to focus on Blackthorne’s adaptation to the intricacies of Japanese customs, his relationship with the powerful warlord Toranaga (inspired by the historical figure Tokugawa Ieyasu), and his romance with the beautiful Lady Mariko. The plot delves deeper into the complex political struggle between rival warlords vying for control of Japan, as well as Blackthorne's growing internal conflict between his Western values and the Eastern philosophies he is exposed to. Shogun TV series broke the Emmy award record.
